Nowy Sacz Starostvo (medieval administrative and economic unit) is in the southeast of the Malopolsk Voevodstvo, bordering the Republic of Slovakia. Consisting of 16 municipalities and with a population of 192,000 (0.5% of the country's population), it is the second biggest starostvo in Poland. Economically, it is also one of the most developed regions in Poland, the prevailing industries being agriculture, forestry, mineral water bottling, recreation and conference tourism, retailing and services.
The region has a dramatic history, with periods of prosperity and decline. The starostvo is famous for its longstanding traditions, which attracts tourists in great numbers.
Our partnership with this Polish town started in 2003, when we signed a cooperation agreement. Nowy Sacz has a population of 80,000 and is situated in a developed agricultural region. The development of the educational sector is a priority for the local government.
